Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has emerged as the leading contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race, according to the latest Sanity Africa survey.
The survey, conducted between April and June 2025, shows Mr. Agyapong attaining 51.4% support from party delegates, placing him ahead of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who polled 42.2%.
Other aspirants, including Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, recorded minimal support, with 3.1% and 3.0%, respectively.
Sanity Africa described the findings as an initial snapshot of delegate sentiments ahead of the party’s primaries.
The organization plans two additional survey phases in October 2025 and January 2026 to track evolving trends within the NPP.
The report highlights Mr. Agyapong’s strong appeal across key demographics within the party, including women (57.8%), youth under 40 (63%), students (58.9%), the unemployed (52.8%), and self-employed groups such as traders, artisans, market women, and farmers (55.5%).
Reacting to the findings in an interview with Peace FM, legal practitioner and Spokesperson for “Ken for President” Kwasi Kwarteng described the survey results as encouraging feedback for the Agyapong campaign, noting that “it reflects growing confidence among the party’s grassroots base.”
He found it intriguing that Kennedy Agyapong received greater support among women compared to men in the survey, adding that “the campaign team has taken the survey results in good faith and will intensify efforts in regions where support levels were lower.”
