What Happened in the Taxi
At Kingston Crown Court, we learned that Kerr and her partner, Kristie Mewis from West Ham, had been out drinking before getting a taxi. The prosecutor, Bill Emlyn Jones, told the jury that things got messy when the driver took them to Twickenham Police Station. The driver claimed they wouldn’t pay a clean-up fee because one of them got sick in the cab. He also said that one of the women broke the taxi’s back window.
Kerr told the police that she and Mewis broke the window because they felt stuck and scared. Bodycam video from officers Lovell and Samuel Limb shows Kerr explaining what happened. She said, “I hate to break it to you, but when a male is driving a fing car, for us, for two women, it’s fed, it’s f***ing scary.” Both women looked drunk and upset in the video, with Mewis crying.
Claims of Name-Calling
Things got worse at the police station. Kerr supposedly got aggressive and insulted Pc Lovell, calling him “stupid and white.” Lovell said this upset him. Kerr’s lawyer, Grace Forbes, is expected to question Lovell when the trial continues on Tuesday.
Kerr’s Side of the Story
In the video shown in court, Kerr says she and Mewis felt trapped. She said the taxi driver kept them “hostage for about 15 minutes” and that they begged to be let out, promising to pay any fees. “We were trying to escape—we were trapped,” Kerr said, highlighting how scared they felt.
Kerr and Mewis also felt that the police officers believed the taxi driver too quickly and didn’t listen to their side. The trial is ongoing, and more people will testify about what happened.
