The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers has in consultation with stakeholders suggested price increases for bottled and sachet water effective Friday, April 1, 2022.
In a statement signed on Monday, March 28 by the National President, Mr. Magnus Nunoo the Committee of the Association, suggested that 500ml ice bottled water be sold at GHS 2, 750ml (medium size) be sold at GHS 2.50 and the 1.5l to be sold at GHS 3.50.
According to the group, a bag of sachet water, which is 500ml of 30 sachets, will now sell at GHS 6 from the retail trucks, while mini-shops will retail a bag of sachet at GHS 8.
The association however says the price of sachet water remains at 0.40 pesewas. It further explained that the recommendations are to “serve as a guide to all regional associations and to ensure uniformity across the country”
The association cites current fuel prices and the depreciation of the cedi as contributory factors to the recommended increases. It thus urges the government to take a second look “at many fees and taxes on the packaged water industry” to help lessen their financial burden.
This they believe when done will redeem the industry and safeguard jobs “for the youths along the value chain from production to consumption of the packaged water.”
