The Chairman of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, Professor Kwame Osei Kwarteng has called on the National Security to as a matter of urgency investigate the publication of offensive learning materials designed for use by pupils in the public basic schools.
For the past few weeks, three books have drawn criticisms from some section of Ghanaians for the demeaning nature such books depict about the Ewe ethnic group and Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
The said books are; “History of Ghana for Basic 6” by Golden publications, “History of Ghana Textbook 3” authored by Badu Nkansah publication and “Golden English Basic 4” by Golden publications.
Speaking on the Atlantic Wave, Professor Kwarteng indicated that as investigations are being carried out, anyone found guilty of printing the textbooks should be punished to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to tow the same path.

“Let’s punish the perpetrators because this act has the tendency of inciting chaos in the country.”
“I humbly plead with pastors, chiefs and politicians not to interfere when those who are found guilty are being dealt with according to the laws of the land. No one should say the culprits should be pardoned. If they are allowed to go scot free, it will encourage others to repeat this same inaction,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Council for Curriculum Assessment has already issued a statement calling on the publishers of the books, Badu Nkansah, to with immediate effect withdraw the said book which has been discredited by the public.
