President Akufo-Addo has emphasised the critical importance of cybersecurity as a vital component of national development.
Speaking at the Cyber Security Awards Night 2024 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, the President called upon the Cyber Security Authority and all stakeholders to take decisive action to secure Ghana’s digital future.
He praised the efforts of the Cyber Security Authority over the past eight years, highlighting a remarkable increase in Ghana’s ranking on the ITU global cybersecurity index.
On the ranking, the country soared from a ranking of 32.6% to an impressive 99.27%, positioning Ghana among the world’s leading models in cybersecurity.
According to him, Ghana has laid the groundwork for a resilient digital economy through strategic policies and initiatives.
He added, “My administration inaugurated the National Cyber Security Interministerial Advisory Council involving key ministries to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to cyber security.”
Following the President’s remarks, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, echoed the importance of cybersecurity, particularly regarding the licensing and accreditation initiatives led by the Cyber Security Authority.

She stressed that these initiatives are crucial in ensuring qualified professionals and organisations protect Ghana’s digital infrastructure.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful also congratulated the CSA for successfully organising this year’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and for selecting a theme that resonates as the nation approaches elections on December 7.
She called on everyone to contribute to educating communities about the significance of verifying information to combat the spread of misinformation.
Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, attributed the successes in securing Ghana’s cybersecurity space to the bipartisan support from both the 7th and 8th Parliaments.
He celebrated the collective commitment to the president’s vision, emphasising that this unity is essential for sustaining Ghana’s cybersecurity achievements.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako remarked that the awards not only reflect excellence but also the collaborative spirit essential in combating cyber threats.
He highlighted that these awards recognise key individuals and institutions that have played significant roles in laying the groundwork for cybersecurity development in Ghana.
