Members of Parliament are participating in a post-budget workshop to closely examine the 2024 budget and economic policy.
The Speaker, Mr. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, says the two-day workshop, which usually takes place outside the Parliament House, is being held in the chambers to cut costs.
“I referred earlier on to the voices of the people in our taking the decision to do the workshop at this venue” he explained.
It is typical of the Members of Parliament to meet after the presentation of the Budget and Economic Forum by the finance minister.
The post-budget forum, usually held outside Accra, is to enable the legislators to scrutinize the budget before debate and consideration on the floor of the House.
According to Speaker Bagbin, it is important for members of the House to “listen to the voices of our people and do a critical analysis of the budget.”
The Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta indicated that the discussion was to underpin decisions to create opportunities.
To him, the 2024 budget is the most crucial executive policy tool that will provide a pathway for the nation’s recovery and its future.
He added saying It reflects our collective aspirations, our challenges, and the pathways we choose to navigate through them.
Ken Ofori Atta however urged the House to be guided by a commitment to fairness, sustainability, and the unwavering pursuit of prosperity for all citizens.
