This year’s Easter is already here and Christians across the globe are getting ready to take part in events that will be held in commemoration of the season.
Easter is celebrated annually to remember the resurrection of Jesus from the dead three days after his crucifixion and death.
This year’s celebration falls on April 9. But it will be preceded by the celebration of Good Friday and Holy Saturday on April 7 and 8 respectively.
Good Friday, which is the Friday before Easter, is the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
And the Holy Saturday, also called Easter Vigil, is a Christian religious observance that ends the Lenten season, falling on the day before Easter Sunday.
According to the Head Pastor of the University Interdenominational Church at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Reverend Kwesi Amissah- Essel Christians must celebrate Easter with the goal of doing everything in remembrance of Jesus.
This, he notes is what Jesus expects of his followers as they mark the season.
“And what is the expectation of Jesus… It is one significant thing He said we should do in remembrance of Him. So, this Easter should not just be the time for celebration, should not just be the time of family coming together. It is a good thing to do, but we do it in the context of giving thanks to God for giving His son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for us” he said.
He, however, called on all to embrace the significance of Easter because it is not the preserve of some few people.
To him, the world must see the celebration of Easter as evangelism to them, must listen to the message, and submit their life to God in appreciation for what He did through his son Jesus Christ.
He encouraged individuals who have lost faith in the church due to the actions of charlatans in the faith, to look beyond that and pursue Jesus Christ for themselves.
He said people should have a personal relationship with Jesus and God.
