Parliament has urged the Minister of Education to reevaluate the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) instruction for students, teaching, and non-teaching staff to commence academic activities on Monday, December 4th, 2023.
The House raised this concern after being alerted to the GES’s directive regarding the start of academic activities for first-year students on the aforementioned date.
Given the limited notice and the resulting inconvenience to students, parents, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, the House suggests that the Hon. Minister of Education consider the first week of January 2024.
This, the house believes is a more suitable and convenient period for parents, students, and teachers to adequately prepare for academic work.
Meanwhile, with the increased concerns on the matter the Right Honorable Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has instructed the Minister of Education to address the House and update Members on Monday, December 4th, 2023, at 12:30 pm.
