Pressure group “Fix the Country” Convener and Member of Democracy Hub Protest Against Galamsey, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been granted bail after more than 22 days in detention.
The Accra High Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Comfort Tasiame granted Mr. Barker-Vormawor a bail of GHC 20,000 with two sureties.
This follows the court’s earlier refusal to grant him bail on October 7, 2024, based on the need for further investigations to be conducted and concerns of potential public unrest should he be released.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor was picked up by the police alongside 53 other persons on various charges of unlawful damage, assault of a public officer, unlawful assembly, and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.
The protests were held to pile pressure on the government to resolve the menace of illegal mining.
Although he has been granted bail on this case, his trial for treason continues.
