The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an amount of GHS 587,236.00 to Six healthcare providers in its efforts to enhance access to and affordability of dialysis treatment.
The providers include Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
This is after the 6 providers submitted their respective lists of chronic dialysis patients in line with the NHIA’s introduction of Free Dialysis Coverage for vulnerable patient categories seeking treatment from their facilities.
This includes dialysis patients aged 18 and below and 60 years and above who are to receive eight (8) free dialysis sessions per month.
Those aged 19 to 59 will receive two free dialysis sessions per month from all six providers but Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Furthermore, those receiving from KATH will have a 50% subsidy for the two dialysis sessions for each month.
In a statement on June 30, the NHIA directed the 6 healthcare providers to ensure that patients who paid for their treatment in June receive the full reimbursement based on the approved amount from the various patient categories.
