The immediate past national president and University of Cape Coast Branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Kwabena Antwi-Konadu has appealed to the GAUA executives to use strike as the last resort to address indifferences when such issues occur.

According to him, members of GAUA are mostly professionals who served in critical positions within the universities, hence embarking on strike actions usually affect the smooth running of the institutions.

The immediate past GAUA National president made this passionate appeal in an interview on the sideline of the handing over of the Ghana Association of University Administrators, UCC Branch held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Mr. Antwi Konadu, therefore, urged the newly inducted executives of the association to work with all relevant sister associations to find alternative methods of addressing impasses to help avert any possible strike incidence.

“I wish they will be able to work very well to go along with the other union. They should have a platform to discuss issues. In the system if you think one union or staff goes on strike and it does not affect the other, you will be joking. So, we should have an arrangement where notwithstanding our differences, we should have similarities in the way we look at issues and the effect of our actions on the other unions.” He continued.

He also expressed his satisfaction in leading the association both at the local and national level and hoped that the newly inducted executive of the association to be able to live up to their task.

He said “I am extremely happy that I am handing over because I have served as an executive for eight years. And I am very hopeful that those who have taken over from us are equally competent to carry GAUA because they have been part of GAUA very active, most of them. So, I am certainly very happy that we have gotten a team to take over.”

On his part, the newly inducted president of GAUA UCC Branch, Felix Adu-Poku thanked the entire membership for the trust and confidence reposed in his lead administration.

He revealed that GAUA-UCC has over the years been a trailblazer in the affairs of University Administrators and professionals in Ghana and therefore his administration will be committed to working hard to uphold such a reputation.

Mr. Adu-Poku said the new team will soon present its Programme of activities to members

He however assured members that on top of the agenda will be strategic professional development for members, recreational activities for work balance, and championing the general welfare of members.
