The Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The HuD Group, Dr. Yaw Perbi has charged medical students in Ghana to have an entrepreneurial mindset and also develop problem-solving skills.
This, according to him, will help them solve problems and challenges that are likely to confront them in their line of work.
He made the call in an interview with ATL FM NEWS on the side-lines of a Think Outside the Box Conference organized by Coats and Scrubs in partnership with the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences and a Community Service Awards 2022 on the theme Medical Entrepreneurship and Leadership
He said Medical Students, especially need to develop and have an entrepreneurial mindset and skills.
“There are many problems in the medical schools and the health sector in Ghana. The mindset of solving problems is what entrepreneurship is all about and that is what we are encouraging them to do,” he noted.
Dr. Perbi further stated that medical students treading on such a path will enhance the health system in Ghana stressing that “whiles we live in Ghana we have problems, whiles we have problems, we need entrepreneurs.”
Meanwhile, a medical Superintendent at LEKMA Polyclinic in Accra, Dr. William Okyere-Frempong said there is a need for medical students to acquire Leadership skills as part of their technical knowledge to aid them to function more effectively at duty.
“Invariably most hospitals are run by medical superintendents, medical directors and they are at a point not responsible for the prescription of medicines but rather at a management level where strategic planning occurs. That is why every medical student needs management skill,” he indicated.
He, therefore, urged these medical students to develop their leadership skills and competencies while still at school.
