President John Dramani Mahama has highlighted the critical role African Centers for Higher Education (ACEs) play in driving innovation and socio-economic transformation across the continent.
Speaking at the tenth anniversary celebration of ACEs held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Monday, April 7, 2025, he commended the centers for their contributions in addressing some of Africa’s most pressing developmental challenges.
“ACEs are uniquely positioned to meet the continent’s demand for growth and innovation. With sustained support from governments, donors, and the private sector, these centers have the potential to scale up their impact and lead Africa’s charge towards a knowledge-based future,” he said.
President Mahama emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships between universities, industries, and public institutions to ensure higher education remains responsive to market demands.
He also pointed to the need for aligning curricula with current economic needs and addressing critical sectors such as renewable energy.
He further acknowledged the strides ACEs have made in increasing female enrollment, particularly in science and technology, and called for continued efforts to address gender disparity in these fields.
As Africa races to secure a place in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, President Mahama stressed the importance of fostering digital literacy, skills development in robotics and AI, and collaborative research to overcome the continent’s challenges in energy innovation and technological infrastructure.
