The Local Government Minister, Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe says his ministry will devise appropriate strategies to obtain real-time feedback from MMDAs on the delivery of government programmes and projects for evidence-based decision making and policy direction at the central government level.
He said, in view of this, the ministry will enhance the District Data Development Platform (DDDP), which is a computerized data-based system to be accessed by the MMDCEs, RCCs, NDPC, office of the head of local government service, and the ministry.
Mr. Botwe said this during the opening of a 3-day zonal leadership training and refresher certificate course for all MMDCEs in central, Eastern, and Western Regions ongoing in Cape Coast.
The objective is to ascertain how well MMDCEs are doing and the quality of impacts they are making towards the realization of the needs and aspirations of the people at the local level.
According to Mr. Dan Botwe, it is envisaged that all MMDCEs will provide at least quarterly feedback using the dashboard. They will also receive information in areas such as the deliberative and administrative function of district assemblies, local economic development, infrastructure, social services, special initiatives, and other issues of interest.
He intimated that the regional coordinating councils will play critical and important roles in the monitoring and evaluation of all MMDAs for compliance efficient delivery of service at the local level.
On her part, the Central Regional Minister, Mad. Justina Marigold Assan said several efforts have been made by successive governments to deepen the local governance system.
She noted that there are several intervention programmes and processes with the sole aim of ensuring that standard service delivery brings in its wake accelerated development for improving the lives of Ghanaians.
She also called for intensified activities as a unified front to support government with hard work, sacrifices, and ideas from Ghana’s rich and diverse backgrounds.
The leadership training comes after an orientation for all MMDCEs who have been in office for the past three months.
This platform will give the MMDCEs the opportunity to share experiences with experts and senior policy makers to re-strategize and find pragmatic approaches to solving problems in the local governance system. It will, again, improve upon their performance during their tenure of office.
