Kisnorbo Moves to Japan
Patrick Kisnorbo has shocked everyone by moving to Japan. He recently left Melbourne Victory after just seven games as head coach. This decision surprised many, especially since people were curious about his links to Melbourne City, a competing team. It turns out he has been hired as an assistant coach for Yokohama F. Marinos in the J-League.

A Different Role?
While it may seem like a step back for Kisnorbo, he is going back to a familiar place. He has connections with the City Football Group, having worked with them at Melbourne City and a club in France called Troyes. This new role allows him to keep growing as a coach.
Kisnorbo shared his excitement in a statement. I can’t wait to start this new chapter, he said. I look forward to supporting manager Steve Holland in achieving success on the field. I’m excited to work with talented players and passionate fans.
Australian Coaches at Yokohama F. Marinos
Kisnorbo isn’t the first Aussie involved with Yokohama F. Marinos. Ange Postecoglou, a well-known Australian, led the team to a league title in 2019. After him, his assistant Kevin Muscat also won the league in 2022. Harry Kewell and John Hutchinson have also been head coaches, but they didn’t find the same success.
Hutchinson was the interim manager for a bit in 2024 but the club decided to hire Steve Holland, who used to coach with England and Chelsea, for the new season.
Yokohama F. Marinos’ Recent Results
Last season was tough for Yokohama F. Marinos. They finished in ninth place and were far behind the league winners Vissel Kobe. They made it to the final of the Asian Champions League, but lost 6-3 to a team from the UAE called Al Ain. With Kisnorbo on board, fans are hopeful for a better season ahead.
