The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal Assembly, led by its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Solomon Ebo Appiah has donated some relief items to victims from more than seven flood-affected communities within the Municipality.
The items comprised mattresses, bags of rice, cooking oil, clothing amongst others. Also, five military tents were mounted at Abee, Simiw, and Abeyee communities respectively to provide accommodation for those who have been rendered homeless due to the flood that occurred at the weekend.
A broken bridge at Jukwa and the overflowing of the surowi river at the weekend rendered many homeless with properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed with communities such as Abeyee, Abee, Simiw, Abbina, Atonkwa, Dutch-Komenda, Ntranoa, being the worse affected.
Addressing the media during the donation, Mr. Solomon Ebo Appiah said the government alone cannot entirely salvage the situation and he, therefore, called for the help of civil organizations and individuals.
“Your little support will go a long way to make a change.” He said.
He also indicated that the Assembly has put some measures in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.
He emphasized saying “All those structures without permits will be demolished.”
On his part, the KEEA Municipal NADMO Director, Mr. Patrick Obeng Yeboah indicated that about 220 mattresses out of a total of 300 have been distributed to the victims.
He was quick to add that not all the relief items brought by NADMO are given out but some are kept in a bid to solve such situations when it occurs.
