The late Shadrack Arloo’s family has asked Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to conduct an investigation into claims that he was killed by certain police officers at the West Hills Mall.
The family claims that the manner in which the late Arloo died is clearly a case of murder and has to be looked into.
The petition noted that “this unfortunate incident happened as a result of the reckless disregard for human life exhibited by your officers on the scene.”
“Your officers at the scene together with the private security stationed at the West Hills Mall and other persons on the 30th of January 2023 acted together to violate the deceased’s rights to human dignity and to life as guaranteed under Articles 15 and 13 of the 1992 Constitution.
“The standard operating procedures of the Ghana Police Service on arrests and use of force were also recklessly disregarded by your officers in this incident and they cannot be absolved of criminal liability as their negligent acts and omissions led to the death of this young man who had his whole life ahead of him.”

Therefore, they urged the IGP to launch a thorough investigation into the murder of the deceased by police personnel and others who abetted him at the West Hills Mall on January 30, 2023.
The deceased’s family also requested that the IGP begin disciplinary and criminal actions against any officers and individuals who were proven to be responsible for the murder of the victim.
Additionally, the family petitioned the IGP “to initiate or cause to be initiated, negotiations with our Clients to cover the cost and the financial burden brought on the family due to the recklessness of your officers and negotiate reasonable and appropriate monetary compensation to the family for the loss of life and for support for the son who has many years to live without the deceased.”
It may be recalled, on January 30th at the West Hills Mall in Weija, gospel singer Perpetual Didier accused some police officers of allegedly brutalizing her 32-year-old brother.
Perpetual claimed that after spending the holiday season in Ghana, her brother was scheduled to depart for Germany.
In a Facebook live stream, the teary singer chronicled events leading up to the 32-year-old’s demise which started from his trip to the shopping mall to purchase some items.
Per Perpetual Didier’s narration, the young man called Shadrach Arloo had withdrawn an undisclosed amount of money for the items when he was stopped for a search by the Police.
According to reports, the security guards asked him to reveal what was in his bag, which he said included cash.
According to the gospel musician, Shadrach refused to let the cop check him out of concern that the officers might have hidden an illicit substance
Perpetual Didier stated that he advised them to go to a police station so that he could reveal the information there.
However, she claimed that the officers did not take kindly to this, and as a result, he was pushed to the ground and struck his head, rendering him unconscious.
