The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye has stated that hypertension is the most common among the existing conditions of the 18 people who have lost their lives through Covid19 in Ghana.
Speaking at the press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information on Thursday May 7, 2020, Dr. Kuma Aboagye said “a superior proportion of these deaths come with existing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension which ranks highest among them”.

Dr. Kuma-Aboagye further gave a breakdown of the 18 recorded covid19 deaths in Ghana with 76% of them being males and the remaining 23% females. According to him, 10 out of these recorded deaths were aged above 60 years; four aged between 40-59 years; two aged between 25-39years; one aged between 15-25years; and one less than age 15. Notwithstanding these however, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye concluded that Covid19 is not equivalent to death as perceived by others and encouraged people to follow properly all the given protocols. He further hinted that the Ghana Health Service will soon come out with more protocols to guide certain groups of people in the country.
“We are also coming out with some protocols to guide hairdressers, barbers and the various groups we have already started engaging, on how they can also protect themselves”, he said.
