The Labour Court 1 Division of the High Court has advised the National Labour Commission (NLC) to resolve its disagreement with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) outside of court.
Justice Frank Rockson Aboadwe, the presiding judge, granted the parties until Thursday, February 10, 2022, to report on the status of the out-of-court settlement.
The National Labor Council was in court demanding the implementation of its orders, which had been disobeyed by public university teachers across the country. The NLC had already ordered UTAG to end its strike, which is now in its fourth week, but this directive was not adhered to.
The teachers had defied the NLC’s order while insisting on a resolution of their demands.
On public tertiary university campuses across the country, the strike has halted academic work and threatens to disrupt the academic calendar.
Lawyer for UTAG, Kwasi Keli-Delataa told journalists after the in-camera session that the NLC will be allowed to move its motions if a consensus is not reached by Thursday.
