Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the launch of the comprehensive digital service and revenue collection platform, which was created to provide the public with a single point of access to Government of Ghana services, will result in an estimated GHS3 billion increase in government revenue.
The Ghana.gov platform supports the government’s goal of digitizing the economy and upgrading how it pays bills and collects taxes and levies.
The approach also aims to eliminate needless bureaucracies and corruption in the delivery of public services to the general people.
According to the Vice President, the Ghana.gov platform saw a four-fold boost in revenue at some of the country’s biggest tourist destinations during its pilot phase at the Tourism Ministry.
“Inefficiencies, theft, and other accounting techniques are projected to cost the government 10 to 15% of its revenue. Ghana’s revenue is likely to increase by GHS3 billion as a result of the Ghana.gov platform, according to the vice president.
During its experimental phase, the platform has handled approximately GHS20 billion, according to Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mr Ofori-Atta stated, “The Ghana.gov platform was piloted from June to December 2020, and a total of 624,000 people have registered, with over 5.8 million transactions totaling GHS20.2 billion.”
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communication and Digitalization, said preparations are in the works to secure data created through the Ghana.gov website.
“In addition, the Ministry is working diligently with the Data Protection Commission and the National Cyber Security Centre to protect and secure every personal detail. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this intervention and make good use of it because user feedback is crucial and integral to the platform’s growth and efficiency. It will benefit all Ghanaians directly and indirectly in the short, medium, and long term,” Madam Owusu-Ekuful stated.
