In honour of the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II, President Akufo Addo has directed all official flags to fly at half-mast for seven days effective Friday, September 9.
The UK’s longest-serving monarch died on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Balmoral after reigning for 70 years.
She died at age 96.

Following her death, President Akufo Addo, eulogized her saying she was the cherished and revered monarch of the British people.
In a social media post he said “The Ghanaian people have very fond memories of the two visits she made to Ghana during her reign and on both occasions, we remember the friendliness, elegance, style, and sheer joy she brought to the performance of her duties.”
He added that as Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II superintended over the dramatic transformation of the Union and steered it to pay greater attention to the organization’s shared values and better governance.
“She was the rock that kept the organization sturdy and true to its positive beliefs.” He continued.

He added saying “Queen Elizabeth II was a stateswoman of unmatched dignity constancy who deepened the bedrock of the Alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States. She helped make our relationship special,”
France’s Emmanuel Macron remembered her as “a friend of France, a kind-hearted queen who has left a lasting impression on her country and her century.”
Also, Justin Trudeau who is Canadian Prime Minister said Queen Elizabeth was “one of his favorite people in the world”.
