The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has sounded the alarm over two alcoholic beverages on the Ghanaian market—Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte in Tetra Pak (250 ml) and Canned (330 ml Pétillante) packaging—citing serious public safety concerns.
According to the FDA, the products were being sold and promoted on social media without proper registration, violating key provisions of Ghana’s Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851). The recall comes amid fears that the compact packaging of the drinks could mislead consumers, especially children, into accidental consumption of alcohol.
“This is a clear public health risk,” the FDA warned in a statement, emphasizing that the size and appearance of the drinks closely resemble juice boxes and soft drinks, increasing the danger of unintended ingestion.

In response, the FDA has ordered all retailers and wholesalers to immediately cease the sale and distribution of the products and return any remaining stock to Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or the nearest FDA office. Consumers are also being urged to avoid purchasing or consuming the recalled beverages.
The importer has been sanctioned for breaching Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, and the FDA says further regulatory action is underway to ensure compliance and accountability.
Members of the public are encouraged to report sightings of the recalled products via the FDA’s website (www.fdaghana.gov.gh), hotline (0551112224/5), or email (fda@fda.gov.gh) as part of a broader effort to protect public health.
