The Effutu Senior High and Technical School in the Central Region has officially launched its 25th anniversary and fifth speech and prize-giving day scheduled for 30th March 2024.
The launch, which took place on the school’s campus, marked the beginning of a series of events planned to commemorate a quarter-century of academic, cultural, and sporting achievements.
The anniversary launch, themed “Sustaining quality and purposeful practical education for all: prospects and challenges”, brought together students, alumni, faculty, and distinguished guests, including educational leaders.
The headmistress of the school, Mrs. Wilhelmina Coleman in her address said it has been a dream of the school’s management to launch the anniversary as the school is noted for its quality education.
It is worth noting that for over 24 years, the school has celebrated only four speech and prize-giving days. A simple analysis revealed that one speech day is organized every five years.
According to the headmistress, the development of a quality educational system largely depends on committed teachers’ quality infrastructure, supportive administration, a large pool of learning resources and discipline.
She said every child has the potential to become great when exploration in the academic world takes place.
Mrs. Coleman emphasized saying Effutu SHTS endlessly provides holistic education to all students, to ensure that after WASSCE they will fit into the world of work, and become responsible adults and agents of change in society and the world at large.
“Excellence in academic work is the hallmark of any great institution, and this is what Effutu stands for,” she continued.
Citing some challenges facing the school, Mrs. Wilhelmina Coleman appealed to parents and stakeholders to come to the aid of the school to refurbish the boy’s dormitory which is gradually becoming a death trap for the students.
She explained saying “There are cracks all over the building. Iron roads are showing up on the staircases, and the concrete ceiling is peeling off day by day. The staircase is so steep and the floors in the room are cracking up and wearing off. There are no fans in the boy’s dormitory, which makes it unbearable to stay indoors and enjoy sleep at night. The block requires major refurbishment to make it home for our dear boys.”
She also indicated that the school needs a modern library as some classrooms have been converted into a library. Additionally, she mentioned that the school needs science laboratories, digital refurbishment and chemicals for practical work to sustain quality and practical education.
Mrs. Coleman therefore called on government and philanthropists to aid in providing the school with the needed facilities.
Since its establishment, the school has been renowned for its rigorous academic programs, diverse extracurricular activities, and a strong emphasis on character development.
The school boasts an impressive track record of academic achievements, including consistently high performance in national exams and a reputation for producing graduates who excel in various professional fields.
One of the highlights of the event was the unveiling of a commemorative anniversary logo and official cloth.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS at the sidelines, Mr. Dennis Ankrah, the 2013 ESTOSA 2013 three-year president stated that It’s an honour to be part of the celebration and to see how the school continues to thrive and inspire new generations
According to him, the old students are committed and have promised to support the Science and Math Club “with certain finances to support their resources so that they can use that to prepare themselves for the Math and Science Quizzes.”
He notes that their presence and progression in the National Science and Maths Quizzes increases the visibility of the school and as old students, they are poised to ensure the school receives the needed resources to support the school on such platforms.
