The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boohene has stressed the need for education to be at the fore of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She says without that, the world will fail to achieve the SDG goals by 2030.
According to her, it is for this reason that the World Conference on Transformative Education is designed to seek solutions to improve the quality of education from kindergarten through higher education in Africa.
Meanwhile, she is of the opinion that in this era where the world is experiencing so much technological advancement, there is a need for stakeholders to help transition education from its traditional focus on literacy and numeracy.
She says the focus of education must in these times be to cultivate in young global citizens an education better suited for interconnected competitive global economies.
“Cultivating in young global citizens an education better suited for interconnected competitive global economies, including skills in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, information literacy, global awareness, communication and empathy, and technology Literacy.”
Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boohene was the Chairperson for the 2nd World Conference on Transformative Education that was hosted by UCC under the auspices of the College of Education Studies and the College of Distance Education.
