The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has called on tertiary institutions in the country to consider improving the admission process for admitting candidates into universities.
The education minister noted that admissions into universities should focus on the transcripts of students rather than WAASCE.
“…take a serious look at a transcript-based university admission process, where, in addition to the WASSCE, the transcript of the students also become important as another consideration for admission.”
According to the minister, the end of the WASSCE examination should be a time of sober reflection for students as they await results.
“It’s not a time to go on the rampage and destroy school property. That’s why I call on universities to begin to look at what other countries do, and character reference for students coming into your institutions so that young men and women will know that there’s accountability. Accountability, when you graduate from high school” He stressed.
He further called on stakeholders to help improve examinations in the country by fighting examination malpractice.
He emphasized saying “By calls on us to develop a clean education system, remove the leakages and all practices and support to grow digitally and once we all do that, then we can create an education system that transforms the fortunes of our nation.”
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum was speaking as the Guest speaker for the 39th Edition of the Distinction Awards Ceremony for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Thursday, June 22, 2022.
