Several Communities in Ghana facing power cuts are demanding a timetable from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to know when to expect these outages.
While the ECG hasn’t released a schedule, former Power Minister Kwabena Donkor believes it’s crucial for them to do so.
He highlighted that over 600 megawatts are being shed during peak times on Sundays, making planning difficult for residents.

“You are shedding in excess of 600 megawatts on Sundays during peak, in excess of 600… Like Ben stated, the shedding of exports, we don’t even bring it into the picture. So if we are to bring exports into the picture, on Sundays we are shedding 800 megawatts,” he said.
On JoyNews’ Newsfile program, Ben Boakye, the Executive Director for Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) agreed, stating that having a timetable would help reduce the frustration caused by unexpected power disruptions.
Meanwhile, Richard Ahiagba from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) apologized for the power outages and acknowledged the valid concerns of Ghanaians.
He promised that the government would address and resolve the issue to prevent further inconvenience.
