Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has advised political parties to handle their ‘pink sheets’ with the utmost care throughout and after the voting process.
Addressing the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Conference in Kumasi, Dr. Afari-Gyan stressed, “The pink sheets are crucial for reconstructing election results. Elections are ultimately decided at the polling stations, and these duly executed pink sheets are the primary source documents for determining the results.”
He further emphasized the critical nature of these documents, stating, “The pink sheets are the most important source documents for reconstructing election results. If you do not have authentic, duly executed pink sheets, think twice before going to court.”
Dr. Afari-Gyan’s comments underscore the importance of maintaining the integrity of the pink sheets to ensure accurate election outcomes.
Meanwhile, Asantehene Otumfuo Dr. Osei Tutu II has urged political parties to trust the Electoral Commission (EC) as Ghana approaches its upcoming elections.
He highlighted the need for both vigilance and confidence in the electoral process, saying, “Despite any attempts to distract those in charge of the electoral process, history shows that the system ultimately produces results that reflect the voice of the people. We must restore confidence between political parties and the Electoral Commission while remaining vigilant.”
Otumfuo Dr. Osei Tutu II also suggested involving candidates from the two major political parties in discussions to foster commitment to peaceful campaigning and proper resolution of any issues.
“Would it not have been a good idea to invite the candidates of the major parties to this conference to seek their commitment to a peaceful campaign and adherence to due process?” he proposed.
