The Ghana Health Service (GHS) together with the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives is advising the general public to disregard the notion that COVID-19 is no longer a threat to the country.

In an exclusive interview on ATLFM’s Atlantic Wave, the head of communication for the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, Mr. Archibald Adams noted that there has been a decrease in public awareness of the virus in recent times, since the president’s directive making the usage of face masks non- mandatory.

He notes that the virus is still present, and hence people must dismiss all myths about the virus and protect themselves by heeding to all the COVID-19 safety protocols.

“Cameroon is in its fourth wave of the virus and we have a lot of Cameroonians travelling to Ghana for studies and business. Now our borders are open that is why we must ensure that we are protected and our immediate family is also protected,” he adds.

Speaking on the COVID-19 boosters, a representative from the Ghana Health Service here in Cape Coast, Mr. Fetus Adjetey, stressed that the boosters are just as necessary as the vaccines, and that everyone who has previously had the required number of jabs should also endeavour to go for the boosters to ensure complete immunity.

He explained that, “over time, as we interact with people, the protection comes down so the booster goes in to serve the memory that I have taken the COVID-19 vaccine specifically to attack the virus should it enter the body. The Ghana Health Service has adopted a three months interval so, if it is 3 months since you took your last jab, you are due for another booster.”
Mr. Adjetey also advised individuals who are experiencing side effects from the jabs to seek help from any health facility in the country.

“If you take the vaccine and you feel that how your body used to work is not how it is working, you are supposed to report to the nearest health facility,” he said.
