The College of Health and Allied Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, has held an inaugural ceremony to unveil its Students’ Association called the College of Health and Allied Sciences Students’ Association (CoHASSA-UCC).
The newly formed association is tasked with uniting all health students under the college and fostering a sense of community within the health fraternity.
The ceremony was held on the theme Delivering her keynote address at the ceremony held on the theme: “Uniting the Health Front”
Delivering her keynote address on the theme, “the Acting Central Regional Director for Health, Dr. Agnes Anane disclosed that there are divisions in the field of health delivery in Ghana.
According to her, this affects the patients who come to the centre of health delivery.
Meanwhile, she pointed out teamwork is necessary for successful healthcare delivery in a country.
Dr. Agnes Anane encouraged the participants to get to know one another while in school urging them to collaborate and pull a team right from school before completion.
To her, the theme for the celebration resonates with the need for a united front among healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive consistent and quality care.
Dr. Agnes Anane also called for the delivery of equal healthcare to all clients irrespective of their appearance, status and qualification in society.
She hinted that offering excellent customer care to clients will help minimise medical legal issues urging that equal medical care should not be taken for granted.
The Provost of the College, Prof. Martins Ekor expressed optimism that the association will be a vibrant community of aspiring health professionals and scientists united by a shared commitment to excellence in education, research, and service.
He mentions that the vision is to create an inclusive platform that empowers students from all disciplines within the health sciences to share knowledge, develop skills, and engage in meaningful projects that address the pressing health challenges of today
“We believe that in the rapidly evolving field of health sciences, interdisciplinary collaboration is key to driving innovation and improving patient outcomes.
I therefore have no doubt that the Co-Health Students Association will serve as a catalyst for bringing together students from various health disciplines, including medicine, pharmacy, optometry, imaging technology, sonography, sports and exercise science.”
The president of CoHASSA, Festus Appiah, resounded the critical role of unity in achieving the vision of the CoHASSA: to be a radiant light illuminating the path towards a brighter future for healthcare.
He emphasized that CoHASSA can empower students to become changemakers towards a unified force for good by staying united.
