The Branch Controller of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Central Region, Mrs. Lillian Frimpong has confirmed that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has begun full swing in the Central Region.
She announced that 64,029 candidates from 953 schools in the central region are participating at 22 centres across the region.
In Cape Coast, the examination is being held for 3,527 candidates from 117 schools at 12 centres.
Speaking exclusively with ATLFMNEWS, Madam Lillian Frimpong advised invigilators from the West African Examination Council (W.A.E.C) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to work in unity and transparency to ensure that this year’s B.E.C.E runs successfully.
Additionally, she urges invigilators and parents who are fond of helping students during the exams to desist from such acts or risk facing severe punishments.
“Invigilators who are fond of helping students with answers written on pieces of paper, allowing them to bring mobile phones and other gadgets to the examination hall should desist from these acts. Parents should also desist from these acts because if their wards are caught, they will be dealt with lawfully.”
However, Madam Frimpong underscored the need for Ghana Education Service Officials and invigilators overseeing the examination to remain vigilant and honest at all times.
She revealed that the council is on watch for anyone who goes contrary to the rules of the examination and would be dealt with lawfully if caught.
She further cautioned parents and students to avoid being scammed by fraudsters who pose themselves as WAEC officials to dupe parents and students with fake examination questions.
Madam Firmpong called on all parents at home to remember their wards in prayers and remain calm as they write their examinations.
“Parents and guardians should be hopeful and pray for their children as they write the B.E.C.E this week and encourage their children to study hard.
Their efforts will be paid off with great results when they stick to their books and learn not to depend on cheating or malpractices.”
