Obaahembaa Ekua Abookye VI, from the Abookye house in Cape Coast has been installed and sworn in as the new paramount Queen Mother of Oguaa Traditional Area.
Nana Ekua Abookye VI who has acted as the Queen Mother of Oguaaman since 2019 was sworn in to fill the Queen Mother position which has been vacant since the demise of the former Queen Mother, Nana Ekua Abookye V who reigned as the paramount Queen Mother for forty-four years.
The Paramount Queen Mother who represents the Abookye House is one of the principal members of officers of the Ebiradze stool family who takes part in the nomination, selection and installation process of would-be Omanhen.
Speaking at the installation, Nana Ekua Abookye VI pledged her allegiance to any call to perform her duty as the Queen Mother of the Cape Coast Traditional Area. “As I have sworn before our national god peprata, Nananom and Oguaaman, I will play my part with Nananom and the Oman to help change the negative feeling around us as people.”

She further expressed satisfaction for her installation as the Paramount Queen mother.
“It is a good day for all of us to show love and a new chapter for a sense of belongingness when it comes to our culture and practices us people. Thank you all for being here today to grace my outdooring and swearing-in as the Obaahembaa of Oguaa Traditional Area,” she said.
Nana Ekua Abookye VI however called on all the indigenes within her jurisdiction to support the course to redeem the bad name Cape Coast has carved for itself, especially its high record of teenage pregnancy.
“The rise of teenage pregnancy in our area is nothing to write home about. As Nananom, parents, guardians and as a people, we have a general duty to protect our girls, send them back to the school, and make them good and better materials for the task ahead. This is a clarion call on all of us to show responsibility to curb this negative picture taking the shine of Oguaaman.”
She also urged parents to prioritize the welfare of their wards but not to give absolute freedom and rights to these children without proper supervision.
She stressed that, “Parents have given enough freedom and rights to their children to do whatever they want without supervision. Human rights does not mean we should let our children spoil. Let us teach our children and wards manners, history, our heritage, responsibility, education, moral values and ethics to shape them because parenting ends when one is no more.”
On his part, the paramount Chief of Cape Coast Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II assured Nana Ekua Abookye VI of his full support and further called on all the indigenes of Cape Coast to help curb the upsurge of indiscipline.
This according to him is presenting a negative image of Cape Coast to the other Ghanaian communities as well as the international communities.
