Recent statistics on the Covid-19 cases in the Central Region indicate that the Cape Coast Metropolis is the latest hotspot in the Region with one hundred and seventy (170) cases.
Prior to this, the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) had been the hotspot in the Region for some time.
Central Regional Deputy Director of Public at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong, in an interview on the Atlantic Wave on Friday said other areas like KEEA, Mfantseman and Kasoa are also recording high numbers.
He noted the Region has recorded 559 cases, and currently places fourth on the regional distribution table of COVID -19 in Ghana. The Greater Accra Region places first with 6,791, followed by the Ashanti Region with 1,905 cases. The Western Region has recorded 874 and the Central Region with 559.
“Cape Coast is leading the regional case count getting close 170 cases now, followed by KEEA which has also crossed hundred cases, then Mfantseman and Abura Asebu Kwamankese all have figures between sixty (60) to seventy (70) cases and then Kasoa and places like Gomoa West and then Ajumako and Upper Denkyira East are following”, he hinted.

Dr. Sarpong noted people in the Region are not taking the Covid-19 seriously, as some are violating the preventive protocols.
“In our region, people are not adhering to the preventive protocols. Generally, people have abandoned the use of the face masks. We have currently recorded not less than 6 deaths”, he mentioned.
He said although several factors would be accounting for the gross violation of the protocols, it is important for people to get used to the “new normal” since the virus will be around for some more months.
“We have to accept that we need to live with this new virus for some more months before we get a vaccine”, he stressed.
Dr. Sarpong is advising individuals to observe the anti COVID protocols because the virus will be in the system for a while.
Ghana has confirmed 498 new Covid-19 cases increasing the total cases to 10,856, with 3,824 recoveries and 48 deaths.
