The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region has been instructed by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to end their strike immediately and appear before it for discussions on their demands.
The striking parties shall come before the NLC on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, according to the NLC.
Members of the Chapter have declared an indefinite strike to begin on Thursday, May 27th, 2021, following a one-week sit-down strike to protest the hospital’s management’s reassignment of two haematologists to the Laboratory Service Department.
They have promised to end the strike only if the two are removed from the laboratory area of the hospital.

In solidarity with their colleagues at KATH, the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) and others have launched an indefinite strike.
They also say that they will not return to work unless the appointments are reversed.
The NLC, on the other hand, has asked the lab scientists to end their strike immediately and return to the negotiating table.
“The National Labour Commission now orders that, as a result of this intervention and in accordance with section 161 of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), the Union shall immediately call off the existing strike and/or any other planned action and appear before the Commission as scheduled.”
“In light of the COVID-19 guidelines, each side’s representation is limited to a maximum of two (2), and this must also be noted,” the NLC said.
On Thursday, May 27, 2021, the Commission sent a message to the striking party informing them of this.
