The cut in water supply to some parts of the Central region, notably, Cape Coast South and North, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem, and parts of Mfantseman has brought untoward difficulties in accessing potable water by residents in these areas.
The Ghana Water Company Limited blames the water supply shortfall on the onset of the dry season with its adverse effect on water production and distribution.
Some affected residents, chop bar, and Restaurant operators in Biriwa and Cape Coast shared with ATLFMNEWS the challenges and inconveniences the cut in water supply has brought to them and their businesses have called on management to help restore water supply immediately.
One man from Biriwa said, “I have only one cup of water which I will use it to bath and it will be my only bath since the past three days we started experiencing the water shortage here in Biriwa.”
Another said “It looks like we are slaves in this country. We weren’t given any prior notice of this water shortage and all that we realized was that our tapes were not flowing when we woke up one day.”
One woman from cape coast also indicated that “for about one week we have not had access to water so we are actually suffering. We are therefore appealing to our authorities to open the tapes for us to be able to get water.”
A food vendor also said, “we are not getting any water to cook and this is posing a lot of challenges to us.”
In the latest development to this issue, ATLFMNEWS gathers the Ghana Water Company Limited has begun an intervention to reduce the plight of customers in the affected communities.
The Central Regional Distribution Officer for the Ghana Water Company Limited, Ing. Thomas Amenya revealed that “over the past 24 hours we have been able to put in some measures to ensure that those who are hard hit had some level supply.”
According to him, with the help of Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem Municipal District Regional Fire Service Command, two number poly tank stands were mounted at Biriwa.
He said the regional fire service command has also been tasked to respond swiftly to concerns of the water production shortfalls, especially in the second cycle institutions.
He further urged residents within the affected areas to reach out to the Ghana Water Company for intervention.
