Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia emerged victorious with 61.47% of the total votes cast, solidifying his position as a frontrunner for the highest office in the NPP Party.
With 118,210 votes, representing 61.43% of valid votes cast, Dr. Bawumia came out victorious in the NPP primaries on November 4, 2023, according to results released by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Four candidates vied for the party’s nomination, each bringing their own unique vision and ideas for Ghana’s future.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong polled 37.41% with 71,996 votes, while Dr. Bawumia, a strong contender, secured 118,210 representing 61.43% of votes cast. The former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto garnered 0.76% and Francis Addai Nimoh also received notable support of 0.41%, with 1,459 and 781 votes respectively.
In all, a total of 192,446 of the estimated 203,437 eligible voters cast their votes in 17 polling centres to determine the party’s nominee for the presidency.
The close contender of Dr Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong believes the election was fair and transparent.
He pledged his support to the party in ensuring the NPP breaks the eight in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
