In an inspiring act of charity, the Chief Executive Officer of Baawapa Foundation, Anita Baawa Hayford has made a significant donation of various essential items to the Services and Advocacy for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (SAPID) Centre at the Aboom School for Special Needs in Cape Coast.

The donation marks a crucial step in supporting children with special needs.

The heartening event, held at the centre’s premises, saw Mad.  Baawa Hayford handing over 1000 pieces of exercise books, 2 boxes of sanitary pads, 5 boxes of sweet beverages, 20 bags of sachet water, 6 gallons of liquid soap, crayons and pencils tailored to enhance the educational and therapeutic services offered by the centre.

Baawapa Foundation, known for its commitment to empowering the underprivileged, specifically targeted this donation to address the unique challenges faced by children with cerebral palsy.

The donation which also formed part of the CEO’s birthday was to make a tangible difference in the lives of these children, providing them with the resources they need to thrive.

Donating the items, Mad. Baawa Hayford indicated that she believes every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and the donation is a reflection of her commitment to empowering children with cerebral palsy, who face unique challenges every day.

“In fact, I wish I would have gotten more than what I even brought.  So, I will tell those out there that they should reach out to the needy or the vulnerable in the society especially this school because they really need a lot of help” she continued.

She reiterated the foundation’s ongoing support of the centre and called for more collective action.

“Today is just the beginning. We pledge our continued support to the Cerebral Palsy Learning and Development Centre and urge others to join us in making a difference in the lives of these children,” the CEO concluded.

SAPID Centre at the Aboom School for Special Needs, is a school for children with cerebral palsy and has been at the forefront of offering specialized education and therapy in Cape Coast.

Despite its pivotal role, the centre has faced resource constraints, impacting its capacity to serve its students effectively.

Speaking to ATL FM NEWS, the headmistress of the Centre, Mrs Mary Osei Kuffo said the generosity of Mad. Anita Baawa Hayford is a beacon of hope for the centre.

She said the donation will significantly enhance the centre’s ability to offer high-quality care and education tailored to the needs of the students.

Mrs. Osei Kuffo emphasized saying “I pray that God will bless her and give her more. So, the foundation will also grow.”

With an approximate number of 153 students trained in four rooms, the headmistress expressed the need for a larger space to accommodate the students during their special training.

She pointed out space and transportation as the crucial major challenges facing the school.

“Some of the classes are on the veranda, the biggest challenge that we have is space. And also, we need transport to transport the students. They are not regular in school. That is the most challenging thing that we need in the school. Want to build more classrooms for them,” she appealed.

Madam Mary Osei Kuffo therefore implored all and sundry to assist the school in giving effective training and support to children with special needs.
