Management of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in Cape Coast has held an end-of-year Christmas party for its in-patients, to bring smiles to their faces and make them feel at home.
Speaking to the media during the celebration with the in-patients, the Acting Clinical Coordinator at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Alex Vico-Korda said the get-together was necessary because, by virtue of their situation, the inmates could not join their families to celebrate the Christmas festivities, and therefore needed to have a feel of it.
This year’s party was uniquely designed for the in-patients to have fun in their various wards due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The day also saw some staff of the hospital being honoured for their meritorious and dedicated services to the patients at the ward while patients who also comported themselves during their stay at the hospital received some awards.
The awarded patients were given a parcel while the staff were awarded a certificate and parcel.
Dr. Vico-Korda used the occasion to advise the youth to abstain from the abuse of drugs since it leads to social vices and not only mental illness.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS, on the side-line of the event Dr. Korda said “It looks like nowadays recreational drug use is really on the ascendancy and when you go to our secondary schools, even junior high schools there are people using these substances.”
On her part, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Bismark Tuffour, called on individuals and philanthropists to come to their aid and assist them in the renovation of some of their facilities.
