The Chief of Staff for the Oguaa Traditional Council at the Emintimadzi Palace in Cape Coast, Nana Kojo Kra I says there is a strong bond of friendship and collaboration between the Asantes and the Fantes.
He explained that many historians believe that there exists a tension between the Asantes and the Fantes, however, he refutes this claim, as he emphasized there is a strong bond between the two.
This follows the acceptance of the invitation by Oguaamanhen, Osabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta II to the King of Asante kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to grace the 60th Celebration of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in September 2024.
Speaking on ATLFM’s Biribi Soronko, Nana Kojo Kra I indicated that the Oguaamanhene, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II sent his chiefs and the executives of the Afahye Committee to Kumasi to pay a visit and invite the Asantehene.
According to him, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s acceptance of the invitation came with great happiness to the indigenes, the Oguaamanhen and his Nananom.
“We believe that as he has accepted to come and join us for the procession, it will make Oguaa Fetu Afahye a great and peaceful celebration for us all. It is also a caution for us all Oguaaman to put ourselves in order, that is keeping our surroundings clean, our roads, and every other area well.”
Nana Kojo Kra I revealed that preparations are already underway to receive Otumfou Osei Tutu and his entourage including other guests expected for the 60th Celebration of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
He indicated that this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration will create another historical moment on the land.
“In times past, many historians have it that there is bad tension between Asantes and Fantes but it is not true. History shows that in 1998 at the time of the enstoolment of Osabarima Kwesi Atta II as king, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II came to support his brother. So if Asantehene is 25 years on his stool and Osabarima is also 25 years on his stool, we have invited him to come again and support his brother. There is a bond of friendship between them and there is a bond of friendship between Asantes and Fantes. We have invited him so that once again we will make history in the land of Oguaa.”
Nana Kojo Kra I, therefore called on all indigenes of Oguaa both at home and in the diaspora to attend this year’s celebration.
“All Fantes, who have travelled both far and near we plead that they should come and fill this year’s Afahye. All Fantes should come and join to uplift the image of Mfantseman.”
