Colombia Starts Strong
Colombia kicked off the game with lots of energy. They tested Matildas’ goalie, Teagan Micah, just seven minutes in. Micah made a stellar save to keep it scoreless, but the pressure from Colombia didn’t stop. In the 15th minute, Wendy Bonilla scored with a great shot, putting Colombia ahead.
This early goal fired up the Matildas. They pushed hard to equalize, with Kyra Cooney-Cross and Michelle Heyman getting close to scoring in the first half. But despite their efforts, they went into halftime down, and things got worse when Ellie Carpenter had to leave due to an injury.
Matildas Score, Then Fall Behind Again
The second half had both teams running hard, creating chances on both sides. Australia finally found the net in the 69th minute when Hayley Raso took advantage of a deflected pass in the box. She scored and brought the Matildas level.
But their joy didn’t last long. Just four minutes later, Colombia answered back. Catalina Usme’s shot took a weird bounce and caught Micah off guard. That put Colombia back in the lead in the 73rd minute.
Colombia Keeps the Win
Australia tried hard to come back again, but Colombia held on and secured the win. This loss marks a tough end for the Matildas in the SheBelieves Cup.
