The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced plans to upgrade and raise more money for the Assembly by implementing a new digitalized revenue collection system in March of this year.
The new platform, which is anticipated to make payments more convenient, also aims to check revenue leakages, reduce suspected corruption, and encourage voluntary compliance and an environment that is favorable for rate-payers.
This information was made public by the mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, on January 26th, when she led a team of assembly officers in educating traders on the introduction of new receipts for the payment of market and truck park tolls in the city.

Holograms are included in the new receipts that will be given out starting on Friday, January 27, 2023, making it simple to determine which tickets were purchased.
Speaking to the media, the first female mayor of Accra stated that the AMA was utilizing the government’s push toward digitalization to develop an innovative method to improve its internal funding and stop all revenue leaks while lowering the human element.
In order to give users a variety of payment methods, she revealed that roughly 23 banks had been incorporated into the new revenue collection platform. She said, “Aside from utilizing the banks, rate payers can equally pay their bills using mobile money on all networks, QR codes, and a USSD code.”
She stated that all market women and traders in the city would be registered and given unique Quick Response (QR) codes to be used for paying invoices from the Assembly prior to the implementation of the new revenue collection system in March.
She urged the business community and market women to embrace innovation in order to bring development to residents of the capital.
Noble Atsu Ahadzie, the director of budget for Metro, emphasized that the new system will send invoices and receipts to ratepayers electronically and without human interference.
He continued by saying that AMA was implementing a thorough stakeholder engagement plan to make sure that all parties were well-informed prior to the launch of the digital revenue collecting system.
Alfred Adjei, the presiding member and assemblyman for the Avenor electoral area, Muzah Ziyad, the chairman of the revenue subcommittee and Assemblyman Amaamo Electoral area, and Francis Anaba, the director of metro finance, among others, were in attendance with the AMA boss.
