University Administrators have been charged to work assiduously to meet international standards since the higher education terrain the world over is changing fast.
The Registrar of the Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Moses Abnory said this at a workshop organized for the expanded Executive Committee Members of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) at the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training Entrepreneurship Development (AAMUSTED) in Kumasi.
Speaking on the topic “The Role of the Contemporary University Administrator in Managing Emerging Higher Education Issues”, Dr. Abnory was of the view that since Universities operate within the global space, they cannot do anything contrary but to meet the expectation of both local and international clients.
“Mindset is changing, technology we need not talk about it, social structure is the same, economic models are changing, geopolitical landscape is also changing, businesses are evolving and indeed our universities are equally doing same. So where are our universities and where are the administrators? Where are the thinkers who are supposed to make sure that we turn Ghana alongside what is happening globally,” he questioned.
Dr. Abnory reminded the administrators that Higher Education is critical for political and socio-economic development of every nation.
According to him, education at this level provides the needed human resource to both public and private sectors of the economy.
Dr. Abnory also indicated that the work environment is currently volatile and for that reason, administrators must constantly learn to stay relevant in the new normal.
