The Confucius Institute of University of Cape Coast has celebrated the Chinese Spring Festival with a call on the university community, corporate bodies, and Ghanaians to help deepen the relationship between Ghana and China.
The celebration is aimed at portraying the Chinese Culture and promoting the Chinese language globally.
Speaking to ATLFMNEWS, the Ghana director of Confucius Institute, Prof. Ishmael Mensah appealed to the entire student body to consider taking an additional language course in Chinese.
He believes when students become proficient in the Chinese language, there is an added advantage of being employed in Chinese enterprises and also gain scholarship opportunities to further their studies in China.
The celebration which was graced with selected Chinese cultural performances saw the Chinese director of Confucius Institute at UCC, Prof. Ou Yamei speak on the essence of the festival.
She explained that the Spring festival which is the most important festival in Chinese Cultures is to celebrate the end of year in January and the start of the Chinese New Year on February 1.
“According to Chinese culture 2022, Chinese New Year is called the Tiger Year. It means it is very good” She said.
The period, she noted, also creates a platform for the Confucius Institute to show profound gratitude to stakeholders such as the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and all the Chinese enterprises among others who help in ensuring the success of their work.
