Telecommunications network problems are affecting the services and productivity of health workers in Yaw Barimakrom, a farming community in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region.
Mr. Frank Kyere, a community health officer at the Yaw Barimakrom Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, said, “It is difficult getting in contact with the District Hospital at Wamfie, the District capital, in case of emergency.”
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday in Wamfie, he explained that they only tracked the weather in the evening and stood at a specific location before calling the Wamfie Health Directorate.
He was concerned that in the event of an emergency birth, an injury, or extreme abdominal pain requiring transfers, alerting the Directorate would be a major issue.
Filling insurance claims for clients at the CHPS compound, according to Mr Kyere, is another major challenge.

He clarified that records of clients’ National Health Insurance claims could only be collected using the cell phone that had been provided to them for that reason.
Mr Kyere said telecommunications network was jeopardizing the community’s development in Primary Healthcare Services, and he urged telecommunication companies to help them through Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the District Chief Executive, and the Member of Parliament for the region, as well as the Wamfie Traditional Council.
