To create a strong presence in the world, the Coalition of Muslim Organisations, Ghana (COMOG) has thrown its weight behind opposition against moves by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) community.
It claimed that the High Commissioner of Australia to Ghana, the Danish Ambassador and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Ghana was given seven days to apologize and assure the Ghanaians that they acknowledged the values, customs, cultural and religious beliefs of the country.
“Failure to adhere to the above call will spur the good people of Ghana to embark on a mammoth demonstration to signify our disagreement with their stance,” Mr. Hajj Abdel Manan Abdel Rahman, President of the Group, who addressed the media yesterday at a press conference in Accra, said.
Theology
Mr. Rahman said that the story was told of how Almighty Allah punished the people of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Genesis account in the Holy Bible and Chapter 7 verses 80-84 of the Holy Quran because men satisfied their lusts with men and women as well with women.
He said the wrath of God on the people reflected his abhorrence of homosexual acts and other deviant and immoral acts.
In addition, he said that while the United Nations Convention on Human Rights, ratified by Ghana, upheld the rights of Ghanaians, the group did not agree with human rights activists who claimed that human rights were the focus of LGBTQI activities.
“We firmly disclaim the activities of LGBTQI as a matter of human rights to the degree that their activities remain hostile to this country’s culture, traditions, values and religious nature and just as polygamy is hostile to the West’s culture, traditions and values,” said Mr Rahman.
Holistic treatment
The COMOG President said that individuals involved in the act required holistic treatment to minimize their “deviant emotions” and “unorthodox sexual urges.”
Under the circumstances, he called on the government to help and collaborate with different religious organisations, traditional bodies and health organizations to set up a center to assist LGBTQI people and provide them with the care and therapy they need.
“We also call on Parliament to condemn the foreign missions in the country mentioned above, which aim to promote LGBTQI issues in the country, particularly when the activity is considered illegal as contained in the statutes of the country,” he added.

Mr Rahman also urged the public to rally behind the party to stop what he described as “our country’s alien culture.
“Let us rid our nation of this LGBTQI hazard to deserve and earn, instead of his wrath and retribution, the joy and blessings of the Almighty God.”
He said, “As we urge Ghanaians to pray for the intervention of God in this matter, we call on all Imams to use their pulpits to educate our youth and instruct them to stay away from these abominable LGBTQI acts.”
