The Central Regional Office of the Department of Urban Roads says its outfit is likely to meet the June 2022 deadline for the completion of the extensive 30-kilometer Cape Coast inner city road project.

In November 2019, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod for the start of a 30-kilometer Cape Coast inner city road project to improve the road network infrastructure in the Cape Coast North enclave. Under the project, the roads are to be rehabilitated and upgraded to improve accessibility and quality of life.

The project is being undertaken with funding from the Ghana-Synohydro Master projects support agreement that seeks to leverage a fraction of Ghana’s bauxite deposit for some critical infrastructure projects in the Country worth $2billion.

As of August 2021, according to the Central Regional Director of Urban Roads Department, Ing. Samuel Mensah, the project was about 60% done with the completion date being June 2022.

Speaking to ATLFMNEWS, Ing. Mensah indicated that the progress of work is quite impressive with about 70% of works complete.

“We are about 70% complete with the project. Our minimum progress on all the roads is at 50%. We have some at 100% and others at exactly 50%. But with all the roads, we have completed the majority of the drainage works” he announced.

Works on the 30km road in the communities in Cape Coast involve drainage, earthworks, and bituminous asphaltic surfacing. Under the Project, the roads are to be rehabilitated and upgraded to improve accessibility and quality of life. Communities to benefit from the project include Akotokyir, Kwaprow, Amamoma, Abura new community, English Arabic Area, PPAG area, Amisano, Besakrom, Dunkwakrom, Eyifua, and Kakumdo.
