Patience Nana Ampaw, a three-year-old child, was burned to death in Tikrom in the Ashanti region’s Ejisu Municipality.

The fire started in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a 21-bedroom compound home caught fire.

Patience was in the same room with her grandmother, Maame Akua Afriyie, who is also the landlady when the fire started.

However, the elderly woman was unable to see through the thick smoke in order to rescue the little girl.

In the process, Maame Akua Afriyie collapsed.

The landlady is suspicious of arson.

“I heard someone walking at the back of the house at night, but I couldn’t see the person, only to hear later that people were shouting and the fire was blazing,” she said.

Ernest Amoah, her son, stated he rescued his mother but was unable to save his niece.

“My sister informed me that my mother and her daughter were in the room, so I should come to their rescue. Unfortunately, the door was locked, so I used a block to break it.

“I thought my mum and the girl will come out but they did not. When I entered the room, my mum was weak, so I pulled her out. “I couldn’t see the kid,” he said.

The dead has been buried, and police and Ghana National Fire Service investigators are continuing their investigations.

According to the landlady, the fire destroyed items worth thousands of cedis.
