The 2022 West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) is set to commence today, Monday, August 1, and end on September 27, 2022.
The exams is set to begin with visual arts students starting their project works which will last for two weeks and end on 19th August.
A total of 422,883 candidates from 977 schools have registered for the exams. Of this number, 72 have visual impairment comprising 39 males and 33 females while 14 have a hearing impairment.
All 60 subjects, comprising four cores and 56 electives, will be written by the candidates.
Ghana is the only country left to write the 2022 WASSCE
Head of the Public Affairs of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Agnes Teye Cudjoe disclosed in an interview on GBC that due to the change in the academic calendar mainly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, Ghana was unable to join the four-member countries of WAEC to take the exams.
As a result, the four-member countries including Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia had WASSCE for their candidates from May 9 to June 24, 2022.
She however noted that efforts are being made to align with other countries as time goes on so that Ghana can be on the same page as the rest of the member countries.
She also said all necessary security measures have been put in place to make this year’s examinations successful.
