YouTube announced Thursday that it will soon integrate Google Lens into YouTube Shorts, allowing viewers to search for what they see while watching.
For instance, if you view a Short filmed at an intriguing location, you can select a landmark and use Google Lens to identify it, learning more about its culture and history.

This integration aims to enhance visual search capabilities, offering users intuitive ways to discover and find content. This move is strategic, especially as TikTok and Instagram Reels lack similar features.
Once available, users can pause a Short, select the “Lens” option in the top menu, and highlight or tap on objects they want to search. Lens will then display visual matches and search results overlaid on the video. Users can easily return to the content afterward.
During the beta phase, users will not see ads in search results, and Lens will not be available for Shorts containing YouTube Shopping affiliate links or paid promotions.
YouTube is rolling out this beta feature to all viewers this week as part of its efforts to enhance Shorts and compete with TikTok and Instagram Reels. Additionally, new features for creators will include an improved video editor, AI stickers, and tools for syncing content to music beats.
