As a leading platform for website creation, WordPress has seen its open-source community actively experimenting with AI tools. The establishment of this formal team indicates WordPress’s intention to play a more proactive role in organizing and overseeing AI initiatives among developers.
“A unified team will guide AI development thoughtfully, prevent fragmentation, and ensure alignment with WordPress’s long-term goals,” stated WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard in a blog post.
Currently, WordPress developers have published 660 different AI plug-ins, with popular offerings including AI-powered template builders, SEO optimization tools, and chatbots.
