Ghana’s National Best Fisherman for 2022, Mr. Alex Cudjoe says hard work and the impact he is making in society using his job is what he believes made him emerge as the best fisherman of the year.
He said to contest and win such an award is prestigious and goes beyond just being a fisherman.
“I won this because of my hard work and my contributions to the growth of the community among other things. Every fisherman can enter the contest and win if God wills but on the fisherman’s part, what can really make him or her win the award is putting the income received from the business to good use.” He said.
He notes that for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to adjudge one as the best fisherman, it considers how well a fisherman has used or is using the proceeds from the fishing business.
Speaking exclusively to ATL FM NEWS, Mr. Cudjoe also said the contribution a fisherman has made in the life of his children and family also counts for one to win such a feat.
He proudly stated that “as for me, the money I got, I invested it in the education of my wards. Three have been to the University. Currently, if I decide not to continue with the fishing business, my children are in a better position to work to take care of me. With the knowledge they have acquired so far, they can also contribute to the development of the country.”
Touching on how to ensure the success of the fishing business in the country, he urged his fellow fishers to desist from activities that do not promote the success of the fishing business.
He believes that fisher folks must stop activities such as littering the sea, open defecating at the beach, and illegal fishing that drives the fish to the deep sea.
“This is what will help increase the catch we make when we go to sea thereby giving us a good livelihood.” He said.
The 2022 best fisherman further encouraged his colleagues to work hard in spite of the fuel hikes and other factors making their work difficult.
